Hi Creator,
We recently updated the Contributor Agreement regarding requirements to meet global regulatory requirements. Starting April 1, 2024, Creator payouts will be subject to additional US royalties withholding tax applied to the US-sourced portion of your income.
To meet these requirements, you will need to complete the following actions, otherwise we may withhold payments:
- You are required to re-register your payout methods
- You are required to submit tax forms applicable to you
Starting December 1, 2023, we will be asking you to register with our new payout provider Trolley by March 31, 2024. In order to receive your payouts after Mar 31, 2024, you will be required to both be registered with the new payout provider and to have completed the requisite tax forms. The tax forms are US W-8 (non-US Resident) or W-9 (US Resident) forms, and are needed in order to properly identify you and calculate correct taxes with the US government.
If you have not registered with Trolley and completed the tax forms by Mar 31, 2024 we will be unable to process your payouts.
You can register your PayPal account or your bank account with the new payout provider. PayPal payouts will be made in USD. Bank account payouts will be offered in the currency of the country selected as the Bank Account country.
If you want to receive payouts in your Payoneer account, please follow the steps here in order to register your Payoneer account to receive your payouts.
Once you start entering your details with Trolley, please ensure to complete and submit your payout method details as well as your tax forms to be able to receive your payouts. You will be unable to revert back to your previous payout method.
Royalty tax for Creators
Creator payouts will be subject to additional US royalties withholding tax starting April 1, 2024.
We have been withholding tax as per AU tax obligations from your payouts and remitting the same to Australian Tax Office. Starting 1st April, 2024 your payouts will be subject to US royalties withholding tax (US RWHT) as well. This amount is paid directly to the US tax authority to satisfy your US tax obligations. For more information on US royalty withholding tax, refer to our help article.
US RWHT will be applied to the US-sourced portion of your income. US RWHT rate depends on a number of factors and is based on the documentation you provide (that is, the completed W-8 or W-9), your country of tax residence, and whether you are eligible to claim tax treaty benefits. Please refer to the IRS tax treaty table for more information on rates.
1099/1042 forms will be used by Canva to report royalty income earned during the year and will be provided to you and the IRS. For more information on these forms, refer to the FAQs.
