My name is Andrew and I’ve been a Shutterstock contributor
for a number of years but I do not work
for them. instead Shutterstock have outsourced the first level of help
for contributors to a firm called Directly who I work
for. This means that
for your security I cannot see any of the confidential information in your account but I
can see your portfolio and I should be able to help with your problem.
Please do not send any confidential or personal information or I will not be able to deal with your question I’m afraid.
Shutterstock have significantly changed the rules about similar images making them much stricter. What is regarded as similar has been more closely defined and submitting a series of images or clips on a theme, even if the elements are different, will result in some being rejected as similar by the reviewer. Images may also be rejected because other contributors have already submitted too many similar images, not just ones found in your portfolio.
Although this makes it more difficult
for us as contributors it is apparently in response to feedback from customers who have repeatedly complained that a search produces too many similar images or clips without enough variety.
The policy is described in this article.
Why was my content rejected
for Similar Content?

There has also been a recent update to this policy making it even stricter.
